Chaos Betrayer Strike Cruiser
by Commissar Sonata Form and Lord Admiral Acoron

The Space Marine lords of the traitor legions faced an ugly wake up call a few centuries after their failure to conquer the Imperium. Supplies of Thunderhawk gunships were running very low, and Chaos forces lacked the mass production facilities of the vast Imperial Navy. While bootleg Thunderhawks could be copied from existing models, they were very expensive to produce, and could only be turned out in small quantities. It was deemed by most Warmasters that Thunderhawks were too valuable to be used as fighter ordnance, and should be limited to infantry support roles only. The Traitor Legion Lords who did not heed the warning signs soon lost most of their valuable gunships.

Strike Cruiser Commanders in particular despised the loss of their Thunderhawks, and the supplement of standard Chaos attack craft seemed little more than a pittance to them. Many of them were so disgruntled that they had their Cruisers put into drydock and ordered that the prow launch bays be completely removed and replaced with torpedo launchers. Fortunately for the Chaos tech priests, the spaces formerly occupied by the lunch bays were well-suited to be fitted with torpedo bays. This gave the fleets of Chaos a small, fast cruiser with impressive torpedo-launching capability. To this day, torpedo variant Chaos Strike Cruisers are the bane of any Imperial commander.
